AXN Guitars - Sneek Peek Model 1 Skulls Artwork - 1/24/2023

We have a run of guitars coming. The AXN Model 1 hardtail guitars are pure RockNRoll. I spent years to research and develop the specifications for these hardtails. I really wanted to make them 1980s authentic. These are Les Paul Killers. Not that I don’t love a great LP. But this platform of the SuperStrat is viable for hard rock.

As it looks i took an edgy direction on the specifications and the artwork. I liked it! I let the videos tell you guys a little more.

The AXN Model 2 SunsetStrip For 2023 -1/21/2023

We have a one-off for 2023. This guitar was relic’d extra. Everyone seems to like more versus less relic so it looks like thats where we are headed. Very artful and very classy is how I would say this one was done.

We manufactured one guitar in between custom orders specifically to leave for sale at AXNguitars.com.

I’m ranting here... Thank you for viewing, but I love this stuff!! It’s Badass!

It’s 80s … it’s accurate 80s and with modern engineering. I studied these RockNRoll guitars for decades. I know the history and it really is pretty darn interesting. I consider what the luthiers of the 1980s were doing as hand made Fuctional Art.

I refined a formula for something very different from whats available today... Recently i found out that you can keep the unique aspects of a 1980s guitar. Also you can add some modern touches because manufacturing and technology progressed. It now allows us to make stuff way more precise. All these things seem to have come about just so I can create cool 80s guitars that actually play and sound way better than guitars did then.

AXN SuperWide Sustain Blocks in Action

Hey its Johnny, as you guys know all AXN Guitars Model 2s have a Floyd Rose that was engineered with a special sustain block. We patterned them after the Prototype Sustain blocks used in the first run of Floyd Rose tremolos from the early 1980s. There was a big difference in craftsmanship materials and alloys used. We were able to create the “Ultimate Floyd Rose Experience” by manufacturing these by hand in the USA!

After number of question and requests I put together this post for informational purposes. Both of these guitars have AXN Superwide sustain blocks in them as standard equipment.

AXN Guitars Model 2 and Model 3 SuperStar Year 2022 in review

Hello ts Johnny from AXN Guitars. This is just a follow up. Thank you for all your messages and the great words of encouragement in 2022. I promise, we have gotten caught up on custom orders. I have manufactured a few guitars just to post for sale on my web site. I will be listing those AXN guitars on my Available AXN Page very soon!

The year 2022 was interesting and eventful. We refined our guitars to Gen2. Our Generation 2 designs incorporated our SuperWide Sustain Blocks into all our guitars. In addition we finally launched my AXN Model 3 Superstar into the line which was the result of much refinement and R&D .

VIDEO : AXN SuperStar M3 Year 2022 in Review

The Gen2 design refinements included many small details that brought my guitars just a bit closer to period correct 1980s. One such detail was the size of the neck heel where the neck fits into the neck pocket at the 22nd fret. We increased the necks heel to 2-1/4 inch which is just a hair wider and a popular size that was used only in the 1980s by Charvel Jackson guitars and also Fender Guitars. Other small refinements were our period correct tremolo posts and a wiring and shielding process that was used by Wayne Charvel and Grover Jackson during that RockNRoll era which bring clarity and headroom to humbuckers in electric guitars

I was excited to add two RockNRoll guitar players as AXN Guitar artists. Mr Bruce Kulick formerly of KISS and Mr Tommy Skeoch formerly of Tesla. You can learn more about them on my AXN Artists Page.

Lastly, after much back and forth I was able to complete a custom humbucker pickup with BareKnuckle Pickups. Our AXN Custom Bareknuckle Holy Diver 2-Wire Humbucker is our choice in our AXNs for 2023.

AXN Launches 1983 Kramer Checkerboard Graphic Into Line

Hey this is Johnny from AXN Guitars. This blog post introduces this really cool run of 2023 AXN Guitars. This is an AXN Model 2 with a checkerboard graphic that originates with the Kramer Neptune NJ factory and from 1983.

This post is informational for Kramer guitar lovers. Heres a little more information on this artwork. This design is one that came from the Kramer Neptune NJ "after hours" era. During that time Kramer management paid their employees overtime to stripe guitars with tape and create artwork onto the 1983 line of Kramer Pacer guitars. I owned a perfect specimin 1983 Pacer guitar with this checkerboard pattern and cloned it perfectly! its functional art.

AXN MOdel One Hardtail Relic for 2023

The AXN Hardtail Model One ( Relic version pictured ) boasts the same bridge and string spacing as the original Whitey. We have taken the specifications of the original and created the only accurate re-incarnation available today. We’ve even implemented the same neck shape as the original JEL Whitey but used our flat 15” fretboard radius to make our M1 RockNRoll.

The M1 had unique features such as an optional maple neck, our Bareknuckle Custom Holy Diver Pickup which is F-spaced, and a 2-1/4 heel size in the neck pocket. All this makes our AXN guitar another detailed expression of 1980s style Badassery! Don’t forget our AXNs are Functional Art

I love the guys at BareKnuckle. We worked on my custom Holy Diver AXN pickup for a while and now. Its 100% done. Just a few tweaks make it different and better than in 2021. Its the best pickup in the world for Heavy RockNRoll!

Its Here! THE 2021 MODEL Two with AXN GEN2 MANUFACTURING

The AXN 2021 Model Two has Generation 2 manufacturing packed inside. But what does that mean?

  • Through skill, dedication, R&D and swagger we refined our manufacturing formula developing GEN2 manufacturing.

  • We now manufacture per what we call “Luthier Grade”. Meaning it’s a grade level acceptable by discerning guitar luthiers. Our results impress and excite players as well ass leave seasoned guitar makers in awe!

  • We stepped up our GEN2 Formula of Manufacture to reproduce forgotten 1980s details. These details, such as a 2-1/4” heel and neck pocket on all our guitars and an authentic 1980s oil finish on the back of our necks are just a couple examples. We also include many small details that are crucial to a vintage guitar that have been lost by mass production techniques of today. In addition we work in AAA Grade woods and materials. That is our tool palette. When quality hardware and accessories are not commercially available we manufacture those items or have those manufactured in the USA for use on our AXNs. No Expense Shall Be Spared!

  • Generation Two AXNs also have the look and feel of the 1980s. The look and feel of authenticity! We don’t do anything half-assed here at the AXN shop. The AXN 1983 Vintage Sustain block is a reproduction of the now famous West Germany Sticker German Floyd Rose bridge sustain block. These tremolos were the first run of German made Floyd Rose bridges.

Ours is an exact clone. It’s an 100% exact duplication in regards to size, girth, height, width and feel as the sustain block used on the first Floyd Rose “Original” tremolo released in 1983. Dreams Destiny Desire

Ok, so I’m all-in. We are pushing forward. I’m doing everything possible to create and manufacture the-best-of-the-best. After all the numbers are counted and results are tallied i know I’m doing it all 100% for myself.

Sure, people love it and kind words follow. Profits ensue along with debits and credits. But why in the heck do i wake up everyday and go right back at it with such vigor. Manufacturing AXN Guitars?…

Questions. Everyone has them. These can be based on ones predestination and/or the inevitability of circumstances. I know what my calling is. I know the goals I’m chasing are of value.

For me it is the belief that I can create with consequence.

What motivates each of us every day? What do we Dream? What is our Destiny? Why do we have Desire?

Others such as the ones I will mention below have a call to action, an oath or something defined as a creed.

Mechanical Engineers have an oath called

“The Obligation of an Engineer”

“I am an Engineer. In my profession, I take deep pride. To it, I owe solemn obligations. As an engineer, I pledge to practice integrity and fair dealing, tolerance and respect, and to uphold devotion to the standards and dignity of my profession. I will always be conscious that my skill carries with it the obligation to serve humanity by making the best use of the Earth's precious wealth.

As an engineer, I shall participate in none but honest enterprises. When needed, my skill and knowledge shall be given, without reservation, for the public good. In the performance of duty, and in fidelity to my profession, I shall give my utmost.”

There is the “Technologist’s Oath” that i recently ran across with a friend and philosopher. This has the following citation:

“I will remember that there is art to technology as well as science, and that empathy, craft, and remaining mindful about the consequences of my decisions outweigh the importance of my technical knowledge”

So we make a move. Everyday we make a choice. It holds a consequence.

Again, I am ALL-IN . I’m creating. I’m not screwing around. I’m committed. It means something!

Hell Yes ! AXN Transitions to GENERATION TWO manufacturing

AXN Transitions to GEN2 Period Correct Line of Guitars

Ok and hello friends, supporters and lovers of 1980 period correctness. Johnny here I’m making this post short and sweet and informative. Now that we have refined our manufacturing process here at AXN guitar every guitar we manufacture is a “GEN2 AXN - Period Correct”.

What exactly does that mean? Period Correct and GEN2…?

Long story short. As you know we are luthiers over here. We deal in exactness. I personally have talents and an acquired skillset centered on DETAILS and more Details.

If you don’t already know about me… from age 25 to today, 30+ years, i worked in the California Aerospace Industry. I supported the family by working with engineers, production managers and CEOs that manufactured aerospace stuff that go into military and space applications. I am undeniably outspoken and unashamed. Now, I’m coming right out with this statement…

“With one or two exceptions, ALL the so called boutique guitars exhibiting a constant release and re-hash of less than interesting new versions of 80s classics are… so very very stale and lacking in character. Stale is the perfect word.”

Here is the meat of this conversation. Over here in our shop we did it. I kept the nose to the grindstone. I pushed and pushed more. I broke a sweat and defeated little frustrations every day to refine what we are putting out. And all this for my own personal benefit.

I also got quiet. I listened to you. I listened to my production manager and my luthier. I listened to simplicity and I listened to science. I followed the nucleus of my ideas until these bloomed… and flower my ideas eventually did. I propagated and harvested these ideas.

I did it for just for the sake of making myself happy. I just cant be bothered with stale and un-interesting. I want to get myself off. I like to look at what we create, manufacture and produce for guitar crazed people and say.. “Hell Yes” ever-time!

Now my shop is in GEN2 Period Correct. No skipping over the obvious. I ensure that the AXNs I manufacture are 100% correct to what was in the 1980s. Take a look at the details in the AXN guitar in this post. It will be visible to you. There are a whole bunch of little details. These intricate details again, not skipped over, not excluded, not indiscriminately evolved.

As evidence go take look at the AXN SuperWide Sustain Blocks. Take a gander at the neck pocket, neck joint and heel/butt of our AXNs. My AXNs have a slightly wider 2-1/4” neck pocket equaling period correct 1980s! Theres a lot more. Little secrets that reside underneath the hood.

Truth be told, AXN Guitars kick butt and carry a bang for each one of the bucks. You will be able to look at your AXN, fire up your amplifier and your AXN, and say Hell Yes every-time!
